Meet the Dentists
Elizabeth S. Barr, D.M.D. (Betty)
"Dr. Betty is so nice and gentle with kids like me.

Dr. Betty began working with children as a camp counselor during
her summers in high school, college and dental school. She graduated
from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and decided to
continue her commitment to children by completing the postdoctoral
program in pediatric dentistry at UK in 1976. She moved to Colorado
in 1977 and started this practice, Children's Dentistry.
Dr. Betty enjoys research and teaching as well as her full-time clinical practice. She is an adjunct faculty at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry and the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Her research interests are endodontics (nerve treatment) and sealants; she has numerous publications in dental journals.
Active in the Colorado Dental Association and the American Academy
of Pediatric Dentistry, she is Board Certified in Pediatric
Dentistry and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American
College of Dentists, honorary membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon
and elected as Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
from 1989 - 1996.
Dr. Betty and her husband, Dr. Don Kleier (see his bio at the end of
this page) are
active in the outdoors. They love to bike, backpack, fly fish and
backcountry ski. They also love UK Wildcat basketball.

Dr. Nelle knows that she has the best job in the “whole world”.
She enjoys working with children, helping children and carrying on
the family tradition. Her father and her great grandfather were both
dentists, now she and her sister, Dr. Betty, are both pediatric
dentists.
Dr. Nelle was born and reared in Kentucky. She moved to Colorado
in 1993. She and her husband, Larry, both enjoy biking, bird hunting
and snow skiing. They are pet crazy and have 3 dogs and 1 cat. Dr.
Nelle and Larry are avid Colorado Rockies fans. Dr. Nelle is a
member of the Rockies Ladies Fan Club.
Dr. Nelle received her dental degree and her pediatric dental
certificate from the University of Kentucky. She is a Board
Certified Pediatric Dentist. She is a past president of the Adams County Dental Society and The Colorado Academy of Pediatric Dentists.
Sean
Whalen, D.D.S.(Sean)
Dr. Sean Whalen was born and raised in Eastern Iowa. He and his wife fell in love with Colorado after being married in Glenwood Springs and now consider Colorado their home. Dr. Sean attended the University of Iowa for dental school and his advanced training in pediatric dentistry.
Although Dr. Sean now considers Denver his permanent home, he will always be an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Dr. Sean and his wife Brandy live in Washington Park and enjoy an active lifestyle. Dr. Sean’s wife is the sales manager for Eblue Print. They recently welcomed their first child, Ewan Anderson Whalen.
Donald J. Kleier, D.M.D. (Don)
Dr. Kleier is Professor and Chair of the Department of
Surgical Dentistry and the Division of Endodontics at the University of
Colorado School of Dentistry. Dr. Kleier is a graduate of the
University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, having received his DMD degree
in 1970 and his Endodontic Certificate in 1976. Dr. Kleier joined the
Department of Surgical Dentistry at the University of Colorado School of
Dentistry in 1978. He has been a Diplomate of the American Board of
Endodontics since 1981 and is a fellow of the International and American
College of Dentists. Dr. Kleier has presented numerous continuing education
programs and has authored over 30 scientific articles. He has received many
awards from his students and faculty colleagues for his clinical skills and
teaching expertise. In 1994 Dr. Kleier was was named a University of
Colorado President's Teaching Scholar.
As a specialist, Dr. Don provides root
canal services on permanent teeth for our patients. He works with Drs.
Betty, Nelle and Sean as a consultant on all of our patients who have
sustained trauma to their permanent teeth. We are indeed fortunate to have
his extensive expertise.
Dr. Don is married to Dr. Betty. He and
Dr. Betty enjoy the out-of-doors. Among their favorite activities are
fishing, skiing, biking and backpacking.
